Princess Themed Party

By

Once upon a time there was a little girl and her mum, in all her goodness, planned a princess party or so the story goes…..

Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella, Snow White, Belle or any princess for that matter at some point in their childhood and a princess themed party is the perfect opportunity to make their dreams come true.

When selecting the colours to fit in with your birthday party themes, limit the combination to three colours for ease.  You can either opt for a vintage princess party featuring a combination of colours such as pink, white, silver or yellow.  This can be teemed with vintage lace or paper doilies, tea sets, pearls, silverware and cake stands.  Of if you prefer a more modern princess style, try hot pink and white or light pink with lime green, purple or silver.  Tulle, feather boas, glittering jewels, faux champagne and cocktail glasses will complete the party look.

When purchasing or creating your princess invitation, request that the guests come dressed as princesses, knights or princes.  Alternatively, give each guest a glittering crown as well as their own prince or princess name tag and announce their royal name upon arrival to the court.

Be creative with your invitation with fun text such as:

Princess/Prince (guest name)

Princess (party girl) royally requests your presence at Castle (your last name)

(address) at (time, date) for the celebration of her highnesses’ (age) birthday.

A royal themed princess party can be located anywhere.  If an outdoor venue, try a garden party with a simple buffet.  Set aside small clusters of chairs or even cushions for the honorable guests.  Props such as paper or vintage fans and parasols will allow the guests to get into character.

If the setting is indoors, a grand banquet hall or Cinderella style ballroom is the perfect aristocratic setting for such an event.  Have place settings for each guest in preparation for their royal arrival.

Prepare a sign for your door or gate to match the Castle name on your invitation.  Pretty pink paper buntings and princess themed balloons can adorn the castle and family members can be used as loyal subjects for the day to wait on the royal guests.  A younger sibling may even enjoy playing the role of court jester.

A castle shaped cake or little pink cupcakes dressed with glittery silver balls are fun to make (and eat).  Or opt for a simple cake with pink icing and pre-purchased princess candles.

Finger food such as mini sandwiches, quiches and small cakes are ideal for this type of party.  And what princess could resist lolly jewels such as cool mints to represent pearls and candy bracelets or necklaces?  Think pink.  Musk sticks, lamingtons and marshmallows are fit for a queen, let alone a princess, and you can finish off with a pink drink such as soft drink, strawberry smoothie or cordial.  For the aristocratic touch serve from a teapot and drink in teacups or if preferable, use champagne/cocktail glasses for a more glamorous style.

Princess style events and games are a must for such an event and some suggestions include a chocolate eating contest using a knife and fork and waltzing freeze, where the princesses waltz to music and freeze when the music stops.  Try a book balancing competition or even Chinese whispers.  There is nothing that young princesses like to do more than sit around and gossip or giggle and this will give them the perfect opportunity to do just that.

If your party is outside, and to fit in with your birthday party themes, have the children hunt for Prince Charming – delicious Freddo Frogs – scattered around the garden.

Once the clock strikes midnight it is time for all maidens to head home but not before they are presented with their royal party bag.  Fairy sprinkles, glitter, magic wands and other such princess-worthy treats make a fun take home treat.

Prior planning and preparation for your daughter’s big day will ensure a stress free and relaxing day for mum and dad and a fun day for the children.
