Face Painting Fun

By

Most children love to have their faces painted.   It turns them into a whole new creature.  You don’t always have to hire an expert.  You could try it yourself.

Before you do anything we recommend checking with the parents of all the children to see if they are allergic to anything.  Usually we check for dietary restrictions but don’t forget that skins may react to anything put on them, too.

Here are some tips for you to help you become Face Painter Extraordinaire.

1) If you’re painting a design that needs a large area to be covered with paint, use a sponge instead of a brush.  Sponges are also much softer on delicate skins and less likely to leave a rash.  Applying the paint with a sponge means it will dry quicker, too.   You will need one sponge for every colour you intend to use.

2)  Just like painting on paper, the colours will mix together if they are wet and you will end up with a mess. so let the first color dry before you start painting on a second.   The paint dries quickly so it won’t hold you up.

3) Plan ahead.  Have some images in mind or some patterns you can follow.  The faster you can get it done the more the kids will enjoy it.  Have a look at Facepainting Designs for some good ideas.

4) Stencils can make your design look fantastic.  Educational Experience has some stencils that might help you.  Stars, tears and a fantastic lightning bolt will add impact to what you are doing and are really handy if you aren’t a great artist!

5) You may remember that professional face painters always have pictures that the kids can choose from.  Make sure that you have some handy, too.  It will make it much easier for children to decide what they want.

Don’t forget to bring a mirror with you so that the kids can see how good they look.

You can buy paints and brushes in lots of places but you will find a huge range of professional quality products at Amy Griggs Facepainting Supplies.  If you are in Queensland you can also attend classes with her.

You don’t have to be an artist.  You just have to be prepared to have some fun with colour. Enjoy yourself.
