Kids Party Decorating Ideas

Themed birthday parties wonderful for sparking off your childs imagination. Do you remember spreading a sheet over the table and sitting below? It was a cubby house, a ship, a cabin, a rocket ship, a shop and pretty much any space you can think of. We did it with our imaginations alone. Just think how exciting you can make a space with some added decorations?
The trick to creating an exciting party space is to call on your childhood memories. Don’t judge everything as an adult would. Themed parties will help you do that.
Many regular party decorations can have a number of uses. Crepe paper, for example, can swing from each side of the room in a riot of colour, or it can be hung across a corner in strips of green to make a jungle. Balloons can be stuck to the walls or they can fill the floor like an obstacle course or stuck to the top of a paper cone to become an icecream.
Sheer pink curtains are lovely when they swathe the entrance to a princesses castle and christmas tree lights add colour and excitement to a circus party. Simple paper circle cut outs stuck to walls, doors, floors and surfaces are a cheap but bright way to decorate for a spotty party (yes, we love those ones!)
Picnic parties and BBQ’s are easy to do. Pull the furniture out of the room and put rugs and cushions on the floor. If you have some potted plants (ferns, palms or even a gum tree) put them in the corner. You can buy plastic flies at joke stores. Stick them to the walls and the edges of plates for a touch of that truly disgusting humour that kids love.
Use up those cardboard boxes cluttering up the place by cutting them up and turning them into large playing cards and clock faces for an Alice in Wonderland party. Crepe paper streamers over the entrance will add to that magical sense of transition.
Lots of blues in the tableware, streamers and balloons will help create the feeling of being underwater. Add some crepe paper dangling from the ceiling for seaweeds and some fish cutouts on the walls and your mermaids will be totally at home.
The great thing about decorating for a children’s party is that the decorations don’t have to be perfect. As adults we might see the crooked lines and scratchy paintwork on our creations but kids will see potential and fun.
With some regular party decorations, some odds and ends and a good imagination you can turn your party room into anything you like.
